Galaxy Minerals supplies garnet abrasive for industrial applications, including waterjet cutting, sandblasting and water filtration. Explore available grades, particle sizes and product information to identify a suitable option for your requirements.
Garnet is an industrial mineral valued for its hardness, density and abrasive properties. These qualities make it useful for surface preparation, cutting and filtration.
We offer two garnet products: IREL OSCOM Garnet and Galaxy Garnet. Together they cover grades from coarse mesh 1–12 to ultrafine mesh 120.
Understanding the mineral properties that make industrial garnet suitable for demanding applications.
Garnet is a group of naturally occurring silicate minerals found in many parts of the world. Gem-quality garnet is cut for jewellery, but industrial garnet is a different grade of material, chosen for its practical performance rather than its appearance.
For industrial use, four properties matter most. Hardness decides how well the grain cuts and cleans. Grain shape affects how it bites into a surface. Density affects the impact when it is blasted or carried in a water jet. Particle size controls the finish, cutting speed and suitability for filtration.
Because these properties vary between grades, buyers should check the product specification against their equipment and intended application before ordering.
Hardness influences the cutting and cleaning performance of garnet during industrial operations.
Grain shape affects abrasive action, surface preparation and cutting characteristics.
Density contributes to the impact and performance of garnet in blasting and waterjet applications.
Particle size determines the appropriate grade for cutting, blasting and filtration.
Two garnet product ranges designed to address different industrial particle-size and application requirements.
OSCOM garnet is beach garnet from Odisha. We have a strategic tie-up with IREL, the government entity that produces it, and we process the raw garnet to customer specifications at our authorised Odisha unit.
It is available in coarse, medium and ultrafine grades. Refer to the specifications table below for mesh sizes.
Product grades:
Galaxy Garnet is our own garnet, mined and processed at our Rajasthan unit.
It is offered in sizes from very coarse to fine, subject to current availability, making it suitable for filtration, sandblasting and waterjet work.
Product grades:
Garnet grades selected for different industrial processes and performance requirements.
In waterjet cutting, garnet is mixed into a high-pressure stream of water. The stream carries the grains at high speed and they do the cutting.
Suitable garnet can cut hard materials such as steel, stone, glass and composites without generating heat. Finer grades can support cleaner edges and detailed work. Grade selection depends on your cutting system and required finish.
Relevant grades: OSCOM 80 and 120, Galaxy 80.
View Technical Data SheetsIn abrasive blasting, garnet is propelled at a surface by compressed air to remove rust, old coatings and surface contaminants.
It also creates a surface profile that helps new coatings stick, which matters on steel structures, ship hulls and pipelines. Medium-coarse grades are commonly evaluated for these applications.
Relevant grades: Galaxy 20–40, Galaxy 30–60, OSCOM 30–60.
View Technical Data SheetsSuitably graded coarse garnet is used as a layer in multi-layer filter beds, where it supports finer media above it and helps water drain through.
As water passes down the bed, suspended particles are caught between the grains. The final grade should follow your filtration system's design.
Relevant grades: Galaxy 1–12 and 12–24.

An overview of the garnet processing stages, from sourcing to finished product dispatch.
Raw garnet comes from IREL in Odisha, or from our own mine in Rajasthan.
Spiral washing plants remove dust and help control chloride levels within applicable limits.
Vibrating sizers separate the garnet into the available particle-size grades.
Dust collectors remove fine dust created during the processing stages.
Three-roll magnetic separators with a blower remove foreign particles, other minerals and fines before bagging.
Relevant quality checks are carried out according to the applicable product specifications and confirmed testing procedures.
Finished garnet is packed in suitable packaging according to confirmed order requirements.
